Located in the Northern area of City of Bandung, NN Residence is designed to fulfill the owner's complex needs which is the need of house and office at the same time. Zoning arrangements and relationships between spaces that still take into account user comfort, we divided the building into 2 masses. One mass function as a residence and the other mass function as an office and studio which are connected by a bridge made of steel. Both masses are made with character from shape and color that creates harmony. Even though they have two different functions, we try to place supporting functions such as the director's room and studio room in a house building adjacent to a connecting bridge to the office building, so that these two buildings are connected and contribute to each other while maintaining each other privacies.
By relying as much as possible on the principles of passive cooling and natural ventilation which responds to the Bandung City climate which is dominantly hot and humid during the day, We placed gardens and water element in the middle of the building as the heart of the house to create source of light distribution, air flow entry, and also as a source of sound of nature. The small water pool can be enjoyed from all sides of the building. Cool air flows through voids in 2-storey buildings which function as communal spaces and circulation spaces. so that air reaches all parts of the building.
As a consideration for the facade area being made massive to maintain the owner's privacy, we placed second skin which was placed at an angle with natural material in the form of ironwood which reduces the visual transparency between the outside space and the inside space and to cover the direct sunlight to get through the inside of the house. Material selection is a consideration of aesthetics, durability for outdoor space and minimizing overall building energy consumption.
The colors in the building are dominated by white and black, so the contrasting colors from natural materials that we use such as wood, natural stone, exposed cement which are applied to some floors, walls and also ceilings in several spots would become vocal point.
