VIEW PROJECT

The society of Indonesia has witnessed countless social trends which greatly influence people's habits and behaviors. As the awareness of physical health and mental well-being is at all-time high nowadays, sports has strengthened its position as an influential social activity, especially among the urban communities.

There are many choices of social sports, but the most recent trending one in Indonesia is padel. The high interest in this sport has led to a rapid growth in the number of padel courts as well, particularly in big cities. In South Jakarta, Padel Mezcal stands out to redefine padel as a lifestyle experience where comfort, leisure, and social interaction are equally as important as the sport itself.

Beyond playing the game, Padel Mezcal is envisioned as a destination where people can gather in community, spend time, and socialize, making the space as much about hanging out as it is about the sport. The project aims to offer a more comfortable and inviting alternative to typical padel facilities.

The padel courts are shaped by a design approach that integrates natural elements, openness, and material simplicity for a balanced spatial experience. The design adopts a tropical approach with an emphasis on comfort and spatial intimacy.

The inherently large and high-ceiling volume required for padel courts can feel impersonal and exposed. Rather than maintaining a fully open and bare high-ceiling environment, the space is broken down into smaller zones to create a more relaxing and approachable atmosphere. The lower ceiling elements and spatial layering are introduced, creating a more human-scaled experience.

In addition to the padel courts, various seating and communal areas are integrated to support social interactions and downtime. Each court is designed to feel more private, framed by greenery and layered architectural elements. The interplay between active and passive spaces becomes the main focal point, encouraging users to stay longer after playing the games.

The design responds to its tropical context by incorporating greenery throughout the space. The carefully integrated greenery creates a softer surroundings and enhances comfort without disrupting the functionality of the courts.

From the environmental perspective, the introduction of plants and layered spatial planning helps improve overall comfort within the large indoor volume. The design also encourages a more casual and inclusive atmosphere where users can gather and connect socially.

Padel Mezcal rethinks the idea of a sport facility by placing an equal importance on comfort and social experience. Beyond the courts to play, Padel Mezcal provides a space where users can relaxingly engage with both the sport and the environment.
