CVIEWThe Timeless Art of Chinese Garden Design
Conceived by renowned multidisciplinary designer Alan Chan and interior designer Enoch Hui, CVIEW's interior is characterized by an understated elegance and timelessness, inspired by the rich history and cultural heritage of Chinese gardens. The design pays homage to the deep connection to nature by capturing the spirit of the classical Suzhou garden and the world of ancient Chinese scholar and literati, who would gather in the gardens for literary pursuits and quiet contemplation.

Entering the lift lobby, you are greeted by an inviting courtyard space featuring the silhouette of a moon gate – a circular opening often seen in traditional Chinese gardens. The circle, symbolizing heaven and movement, and the square, symbolizing earth and stillness, harmoniously coexist to represent the Chinese concept of 天圓地方, which emphasizes the importance of balance between seemingly opposing forces of yin and yang. This entrance offers a welcoming yet sensuous atmosphere, inviting guests to step into a world of cuisine, culture, and creativity.

CVIEW
A Microcosm of Chinese Culture and History
Every element of CVIEW is imbued with symbolic meaning to encapsulate the larger world of nature in microcosm. To unfold the many aspects of the Chinese garden landscapes one at a time, the interior is meticulously designed to give shifting effects of light and the seasons. This precise curation is known as 移步換景, a design approach exclusive to traditional Chinese gardens, meaning "a change of scenery in each step of the journey”.

In the dining area, you will notice a series of tree installations gracing the space. Each one features a different species of tree—willow, cherry, yellow maple, red maple, and podocarpus. With each tree representing a different season, captured in a moment of its full glory, these installations are a tribute to the beauty and transience of life.

And as you continue to explore the space, your senses are further engaged by the lighting design, which evolves throughout the day to create different moods and add an ode to light and shadow. The restaurant is fully utilized during the day, with natural light flooding the space. As the sun sets, thoughtfully installed accent lights highlight the tree installations and cast intricate shadows on the ceiling, creating a more intimate and cozy ambiance. The interplay of lights and shadows is also inspired by the ancient Chinese philosophy of yin and yang.

A Transformative and Immersive Visual Journey
As you wander along the panoramic window of CVIEW, you will pass a long hallway reminiscent of a traditional Chinese gallery corridor which connected pavilions and divided spaces in traditional Chinese gardens. Along this corridor, you will find a row of 40 window seats where you can enjoy a carefully curated harbor view that goes beyond just a picturesque scene. The classy window frames also dance in perfect harmony with M+'s custom-designed façade cladding, which was crafted by Herzog & de Meuron. These elegant silhouettes create a symphony of corrugated forms that pay homage to traditional Chinese roofs. This coherence between the elements of design is a poignant reminder that every aspect is connected, and that art can be found in every corner and varying viewing angles. At CVIEW, every detail weaves together to create a transformative visual journey, where the boundaries between art, architecture and design dissolve into a seamless and immersive whole.
