VIEW PROJECT

Architecture is more than programming functional space and constructing physical buildings. Architecture is a visual language that conveys deeper meanings and represents ideas beyond functionality and aesthetics. The meanings and ideas are crafted into various architectural elements, giving layers of depth to a space. Such design approach is often implemented to religious buildings, the As-Salam Mosque being one of them.

LUDZI, The Concept of As-Salam Mosque That Goes Beyond Mere Functionality

Located at Rest Area KM 14 Karang Tengah with an area of approximately 300 square metres, the As-Salam Mosque is designed with a concept named LUDZI (Column of Remembrance). The main concept centres on the Column of Dzikir, which basically means the Column of Remembrance.

The concept incorporates the recitation of various remembrance phrases, such as Tahmid (praising Allah), Takbir (declaring Allah's greatness), and Tasbih (glorifying Allah). These religious phrases are integrated onto all columns or pillars that support the mosque structure. The application of remembrance phrases uses wood replacement material to cover the columns, which amount to 100 pillars.

The Mihrab, the prayer niche in the mosque, also embodies the concept through elongated remembrance phrases applied diagonally to the wood replacement material surface. The implementation of the remembrance phrases is also extended to the facade's secondary skin made of Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete (GFRC).

The concept of sustainability and green design becomes another pivotal part of the mosque design. Numerous openings surrounded by greenery create a cool, refreshing atmosphere inside the mosque. The abundant number of openings allows natural light to enter the mosque optimally, ensuring sustainable design as well as bringing out comfortable, calming ambience.

The concept of LUDZI (Column of Remembrance) plays a significant role in the mosque design. The remembrance phrases applied reflect the religious belief that goes beyond the function of columns as mere structure elements, defining the meaningful As-Salam Mosque.
