About Cheltenham Secondary College

Cheltenham Secondary College is a co-educational high school in Cheltenham, Victoria Australia, catering for students in years 7 to 12. The school officially opened in 1959 as 'Cheltenham High School', and then later changed its name to Cheltenham Secondary College.

The Requirement

To enhance the school's outdoor environment by providing versatile and aesthetically pleasing outdoor settings, benches, and bin enclosures, fostering sustainable waste management practices and promoting a comfortable, functional space for students and staff to interact and engage.

The Challenges

Space Limitations: Finding the optimal layout for seating arrangements within the existing playground spaces, ensuring adequate room for both play and learning activities.

Diverse waste management requirements: Accommodating landfill, recycling, and organics bins within the enclosures to ensure proper separation and ease of use for students and staff.

Durability and Maintenance: Identifying seating options that are sturdy, long-lasting, and low-maintenance, while also being easy for students to move around.

The Solution

After assessing the challenges and requirements, the school opted for the Milan Setting with Benches, the Milan 1800mm Bench, and the 240L Powder Coated Athens Bin Enclosure featuring custom door signage.

The chosen solution includes the following features:

Milan Setting and Benches:

Versatile Installation: The bench can be bolted down for added stability or left free-standing for flexibility and easy rearrangement in the school environment.

Durable Materials: The bench's frame is constructed from heavy 8mm thick zinc-plated steel and features a Dulux Monument powder coat finish, ensuring durability and resistance to wear and tear.

Customisation Options: The Milan Bench is available in various designs, including clear anodized aluminium slats, wood grain aluminium slats, seats, table settings, custom lengths, and custom colours to suit specific needs and preferences.

Athens Bin Enclosure:

Easy Waste Separation: The Athens Bin Enclosure is designed for efficient rubbish management and waste separation.

Modular Design: The Athens Bin Enclosure features a no-weld, modular construction, meaning that the sides can be individually replaced if required. This contrasts with imported alternatives that are welded or riveted, often resulting in the entire bin needing to be replaced if damage occurs.

Custom Door Signage: Custom signs on the bin enclosure doors help users identify landfill, recycling, and organics bins. Astra Street Furniture prints all of our bin signage in-house, so customisations are easy and lead times are quick!

Durable Materials: The powder-coated enclosure is made of heavy-duty materials that withstand daily use and weather conditions.

Versatile Configuration: The Athens Bin Enclosure is designed without a top overhang, allowing for the creation of a 'bank' of multiple bins. This contrasts with alternative bin enclosures that feature an overhanging top, which restricts them to standalone use.

By selecting the Milan Settings and Benches and Athens Bin Enclosures, students are provided with a versatile, durable, and visually appealing solution that enhances their outdoor learning and play experiences.

What the client said

“We all love the furniture and we'll certainly be purchasing more. The pieces not only look great but are also built to withstand the wear and tear of kids' activities, making them well-utilised and durable.”
