Renovating a shophouse for a home decor retail named Kemala. Their high quality wood ware became our first inspiration for this project. Kemala have their own craftsmen at Java adn Bali to produce their wooden products, specially made from teak wood. Not only wooden products, Kemala also have rattan, porcelain, glass, and fabric products to display.
Kemala had four stores at Pasar Santa, South Jakarta. Because of the lack of space there, Kemala wanted to move to shophouse in kemang that has bigger and more representative space. Another aim of this project is to accommodate the products display and make it more attractive to the visitors.
The facade is designed using recycled teak wood for connecting the identities between products they sell with the building. We created a parametric wave pattern with the rotation of the wood for breaking the formality and stiffness from the existing facade.
