Nanjing Youth Olympic Conference Centre is a landmark building located on the river in Nanjing Hexi new town. The Nanjing Youth Olympic complex, comprised by 2 towers and the Conference Centre, is designed by world renowned Zaha Hadid Architects. Zaha Hadid articulates the continuity, fluidity and connectivity between urban environment of Hexi and rural landscapes of Jiangxinzhou Island through creative space arrangement and organic shaped towers and Conference Centre. The towers create a dynamic transition from the vertical of the urban CBD to the horizontal topography of the river. The taller tower signifies the position of the Youth Olympic Plaza both within the urban grid of Hexi New Town and on the Nanjing Skyline. The natural landscapes of the river are connected to the urban streetscape of the new CBD through the fluid architectural language of the mixed-use podium and Conference Centre. This architectural composition juxtaposes the vertical (city) and horizontal (river and landscape).
Inside the Conference Centre, Zaha Hadid make uses of irregular lines and organic shapes to create a fluid continuity that extends from wall to corridor to escalator. Leveraging on the smooth texture and plasticity of DuPont™ Corian®, Zaha Hadid is able to create this dynamic space without compromising any functionality. Every detail is made to perfect precision to articulate the symphony of interactive yet elegant interior space. DuPont™ Corian® combined with the abstract design direction of Zaha Hadid completely turned around the traditional rectangular boring space into a futuristic dynamic area that marks the milestone of cross-era architecture.
