The new Integrated Terminal Building combines international and domestic operations at one of the busiest airports in India. As a landmark of Mumbai, the new 410,000-square-meter airport terminal demands not only safety, hygiene, green and performance, but also a material that convey the right image for visitors who will visit India. With its seamless, homogenous look and solid feel, Corian® has the substance to create impressive, large-scale designs, while also offering the durability, ease of cleaning and minimal maintenance that these spaces require in the long-term. The designers had no hesitation and chose Corian® solid surface as the main material for the new building.
Unlike conventional commercial spaces that use white as main color, the new terminal made use of Corian® Bone (a warm shade of white) throughout the spaces to create a light-filled chamber supported by an array of multi-story columns that represents the key element “warm and welcoming”. Corian® is applied not only on workstations and information desks, but also on wall claddings, columns and furniture. The designers are eager to present India’s vision of innovation through different applications of Corian®. Corian® gives the new terminal a signature aesthetic style that stands up to beauty and durability for both vertical and horizontal applications. Furthermore, Corian® is stain and fade resistant, renewable and requires little maintenance; this makes it the perfect choice for places with heavy daily traffic.
