Warung NAKO

Jl margonda raya

A.    DESIGN BACKGROUND

Warung Nasi dan Kopi (Rice and Coffee Parlor), or more commonly known as “Warung NAKO” are small shops that serve genuine Indonesian food with coffee being the main beverage.

These small shops are the main inspiration for the design, with Warung Tegal or Warteg specifically chosen as it is the most common form of Warung Nako. Originated from Central Java, Warteg has spread all across Java and are very close to the heart of Indonesian people.

The most notable features of a Warteg are its roof and the thousands of louvers or nako glass windows which comes from the necessity for air circulation.

And this is the kind of sustainable design the we aim to achieve between the Brand, FnB, and Design (Interior, and Architectural wise)

B.     ZONING AND LAYOUT

Dividing the building into 3 sections is the overall concept for our zoning.

The middle section (Warung Nako and Kopi Nako) is where the Lobby and Main Entrance are. Because it will inadvertently serve as a Waiting Area, we have made it to be very instagrammable. The placing of 2 stairways combined with the overall lighting, constitutes the main point of interest of the lobby. The Left and Right Wing each has their own designated area, which are the VIP room and smkoing area, respectively.

Passing the Lobby and stairways, we arrive at the Main Counter where customers can grab their food and beverages from Warung Nako using a business model adopted from fastfood chains (i.e Order – Pay – Dine).

The building on the lower left is KopiNako, which adopts a different model for Food & Beverage orders. The Cashier, Production area, and Storehouse are all on separate locations.

The right side of the building is the main dining area, and is divided into the Smoking Area (2ndfloor), and the non-Smoking Area (ground floor).

C.     MAIN CONCEPT

A Warteg, with an urban design. That is the central theme of Warung Nako.

The thousands of louvers used becomes the design point of interest for the building as well as promoting green design with its exceptional air flow thus reducing Air Conditioner usage.

Another aspect of the green design is also featured in the usage of skylight roof on the lobby and main buffet area, creating excellent ambience in the lighting where customers can leisure comfortably and engage with the area itself by being highly instagrammable.

D.    MATERIAL

The materials used are adopted from the Warteg theme as the original ‘restaurant’ of Indonesia. For the interior, we use Kayu Jati Jawa; Ubin Kunci Jogja, Terracota Bali, Handmade Teraso Batu Tulung Agung.

E. ACCESSORIES

Kaleng Kerupuk (Cracker Tin Can)

One of Warteg and Indonesia’s trademark, the cracker. It goes well with any food and no Warteg is complete without it. To highlight this feature, we place a 5 meter backdrop behind the main food counter.
