Type: Villa and Accommodation Units
Location: Bingin, Bali
Status: Pre/in construction
Build area: 1530m2
This project is located up in the hills of the Bingin area of Pecatu, South Bali. The brief from the client on the 1800m2 site was to design a modern private residence, along with 4 stand-out rental accommodation units that will cater to an expanding tourism market in the Uluwatu area.
For the main villa, we designed a modern structure with crisp clean lines and interlocking plains. We have contrasted Shou Sugi Ban (burnt timber cladding) with a thin and lightweight rusted metal roof structure that helps shade the building and protect the materials from the tropical rains. Big operable glazing and sliding screens enable plenty of cross ventilation throughout the day to reduce the need for air conditioning.
For the accommodation units we wanted things to feel light touch, so designed 4 cabin style prefabricated structures that sit above the existing forest floor. Large modern glazing connects the users with the surrounding nature and the riverside context and materials used in the main villa are also used here in order to connect the overall scheme.
We wanted to keep as much of the existing vegetation as possible so the cabins have been positioned strategically around the existing teakwood trees. Any trees that will have to make way, the timber will be dried out and used in the fabrication of furniture for the project By using these natural materials in the construction and finishes we hope the structures will blend in and eventually feel part of the existing landscape.
The site has been cleared, planning submitted, builder selected, and construction about to commence.
