Urban Design Week 2023 concludes with a Conference themed New Urban Mobility – Healthy Change in the High-Density City

[Hong Kong, November 20, 2023] - The Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design (HKIUD) concluded hosting the Urban Design Week 2023 with a Conference and Workshop on 17th and 18th November at the Nina Hotel Tsuen Wan West. The event brought together international professionals, academics, and industry leaders to discuss the latest trends, challenges, and innovations in the field.

With the theme "New Urban Mobility – Healthy Change in the High-Density City," Urban Design Week 2023 provided a platform for lively discussion, insightful sharing, and valuable networking opportunities. Over the course of a week of presentations, workshops, and panel sessions, a wide range of critical issues were explored, focusing on future air, rail, and bus mobility issues; road pollution, congestion, and safety concerns; a range of well-being aspects; and the application of AI in transport management.

The Conference featured a respected lineup of both international and local speakers, including urban professionals, government officials, business leaders and educational scholars; inspiring participants to think both critically and creatively about the future of the urban realm and its impact on society.

Mr. Barry Wilson, President of the Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design stated “A clear outcome from Urban Design Week was the strong and consistent dissatisfaction shown by participants towards the current state of Hong Kong’s vehicle dominated streets and thereby its lack of attractiveness in appealing to international talent as a vibrant and high-quality environment in which to live. A complete change in mindset about the way urban streets are utilised is required – removing vehicles and creating great places to inhabit.”
