Hong Kong, 28 February 2024 – The Hong Kong Green Building Council (the Council) welcomes the 2024/25 Budget announced by the Financial Secretary today. The Council is committed to supporting the Government's sustainable development strategies for a Green Future. The Council will continue to lead the industry to enhance Hong Kong’s development of excellence in sustainable buildings as well as energy saving and emission reduction, striving to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Following 1000 days of research on brutalist architecture in Hong Kong, unexpectedly, numerous dusty archives that were once scattered everywhere have been found. These archives include original building plans, design sketches, old photographs, publications, as well as introductory texts and documents from architects’ studios. One of the most astonishing discoveries amongst them is the scale model of Stewards Pooi Tun Secondary School, once featured in the March 1972 issue of Asian Architect & Builder magazine. Until today, it is well preserved by the school for over half a century.

Taking place across 22 halls of the China Import and Export Complex in Guangzhou, Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition (GILE) closed on 12 June 2023 attracting 3,318 exhibitors and 207,681 visitors to its 28th edition, concurrently with Guangzhou Electrical Building Technology (GEBT). This represented a 157% and 62% increase from the previous edition.

The 20th edition of Guangzhou Electrical Building Technology (GEBT) closed on 12 June 2023 at the China Import and Export Fair Complex. Alongside the concurrent Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition (GILE), the fairs hosted 3,318 exhibitors from 18 countries and regions, while visitors rose by 62% to 207,681. GEBT continues to provide a comprehensive platform for all participants to explore and promote the green development of the building industry.

Jointly organised by The Hong Kong Institute of Architects Biennale Foundation and Hong Kong Arts Development Council, with The Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) as the Partner and Create Hong Kong of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as the Lead Sponsor, the “Transformative Hong Kong” Exhibition will be staged in the 18th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia from Saturday 20 May to Sunday 26 November, 2023. A press conference was held on 5 May, to announce theme and curatorial team of the “Transformative Hong Kong” Exhibition at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia.

The Collateral event of 18th International Architecture Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia - Hong Kong Exhibition with the theme “Transformative Hong Kong” (港創未來) held its official opening on 19th May 2023 in Venice, Italy. The opening ceremony was attended by Member of Legislative Council and government officials of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, as well as professionals, media and architects from across the world.

The Bucheon Arts Center in South Korea has formally opened to the public. The complex features a 1,450 seat symphonic concert hall, a 300 seat arts theatre and a large orchestral rehearsal space, and will be the home for the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra. The design is a collaboration between Arup and the Architectural firms of Haenglim and DMP.
