The existing Tianjin Metro Line 4 is being extended with a new 22-km addition that will feature more than 120 Otis escalators and Gen3™ elevators.
More than 1,500 Otis units now keep passengers moving across key subway network.
Otis China has been selected to provide more than 120 escalators and Gen3™ elevators for Tianjin Metro’s new Line 4 northern extension.
The new Gen3™ elevators will be connected to Otis ONE™, an Internet of Things (IoT)-based platform already delivering real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance for Tianjin Metro. The digital ecosystem supports on-site service engineers to provide around-the-clock service to maximize passenger safety and minimize disruption.
With 17 stations along a 22-kilometer route, the Line 4 extension builds on a southern section that opened in December 2021 with 186 Otis elevators and escalators. Overall, the latest addition takes the number of Otis units on the port city’s expanding subway network to more than 1,500.
“This project continues a partnership that spans four decades and reinforces Tianjin’s growth as a visionary smart city,” Otis China President & Chief Customer Product Officer Perry Zheng said. “We are honored to work with Tianjin Metro once again to harness the latest technologies and smart elevators to help ensure reliable transportation.”
Tianjin Metro has been using Otis equipment since opening in 1984, when it became the second subway network in mainland China – after Beijing opened in 1971. Otis elevators and escalators are currently in use on seven metro lines across the city.
