Innovative Workspace: LOJEL's New Headquarters by XLMS

Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a striking façade that frames stunning views of Hong Kong's major port and the Pearl River Delta, setting an inspiring tone for creativity. "We wanted the entrance to evoke a sense of wonder and connection to the city," says designer Ian Hau. The adaptable design allows the space to transform into a lively café for events and town hall meetings, fostering community engagement.

Inside, a harmonious blend of warm wooden flooring, sophisticated concrete grey tones, and playful terrazzo tiles creates an inviting, café-like atmosphere. "Our goal was to craft a space that feels both professional and welcoming," Hau explains. Thoughtfully integrated greenery enhances aesthetics while promoting well-being, cultivating an environment that energises and inspires productivity.

This project exemplifies innovative design principles through the use of sustainable materials, reflecting LOJEL's commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards. "Sustainability is at the heart of our design ethos," Hau states. The incorporation of locally sourced, eco-friendly materials and low volatile organic compounds (VOCs) underscores a dedication to minimising environmental impact.

Strategically integrated Herman Miller height-adjustable furniture and ergonomic seating create a versatile environment that balances privacy and openness. "We aimed to encourage collaboration while providing spaces for focused work," Hau adds. Inviting breakout areas serve as hubs for mentorship and knowledge sharing, enhancing overall work culture and employee satisfaction.

The Activity-Based workplace promotes inclusivity and engagement, aligning with the values of creative professionals. "We believe that a dynamic environment leads to happier, more productive employees," Hau asserts. This design not only meets the needs of employees but also positively influences job satisfaction and retention.

The LOJEL headquarters has been meticulously has been designed to incorporate as many WELL Building Standard™ and LEED principles as possible, emphasising sustainability. The incorporation of plants improves air quality and fosters biodiversity, creating a healthier atmosphere. "Nature is central to our design—it’s about creating a sanctuary for employees," Hau explains. Additionally, the project utilises locally sourced materials from within 100 km and features energy-efficient LED lighting, significantly reducing energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

Completed in just ten weeks, the project showcases exceptional craftsmanship, using FSC-certified timber and locally sourced materials. "Every detail matters; we focused on quality and sustainability from the ground up," Hau concludes. The LOJEL headquarters stands as a testament to innovative design, effectively consolidating LOJEL's global operations while embodying its core values of creativity, sustainability, and community.
