The SIA Study Tour: Tokyo – Advancing Architectural Excellence & MET Innovation marked the Singapore Institute of Architects’ first overseas architectural immersion study tour, organised with the support of SKK Singapore (https://skk.com.sg/). Held from 10 to 13 March 2026, the programme brought 23 delegates to Tokyo for a focused exploration of architectural design, practice, and internationalisation through curated building visits, expert dialogues, and cultural experiences.

Over four days, participants toured a selection of notable projects including Yokohama Port Plus, Rooflag, Miyashita Park, Maison Hermes Le Forum, Prada Tokyo Aoyama, Nezu Museum, Sunnyhills Building, Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Centre, Tokyo Mode Gakuen, Fuji Broadcasting Centre, Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower, and the State Guest House Akasaka Palace, gaining first‑hand insight into Japan’s contemporary urban fabric and design approaches. Delegates also visited the Japan Institute of Architects and the offices of Toyo Ito & Associates, Architects (https://www.linkedin.com/company/toyo-ito-associates-architects/) and Obayashi, where in‑depth exchanges shed light on practice models, project delivery, and innovation in Japan’s architecture and construction sectors.

SIA extended its appreciation to the Japanese hosts and architects who generously shared their time and expertise, enabling a rich dialogue between the Singapore and Japan design communities. The study tour strengthened bilateral professional ties and provided delegates with invaluable opportunities for knowledge expansion, idea exchange, and new connections, while highlighting innovative and sustainable directions for the future of architecture and construction.
