THE PROJECT
Located in Sha Tin Racecourse, the 5-storey building with 2 levels of basement occupies 28,000sq ft of land area. The data centre is designed to enhance the IT facilities and meet the increasing needs of IT and data processing operations of Hong Kong Jockey Club, where high-performance servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and other IT infrastructure are installed.
THE SOLUTION
The requirement of the basement waterproofing was challenging, with deep basement and high water table near Shing Mun River. In addition, the Data Centre operation cannot allow for any down time in operation due to water leakages. To tackle the problem, Fosroc recommended a comprehensive Type A, B & C combined waterproofing solution according to BS8102 to create a completely watertight structure.
For Superstructure, the architect designed a double slab for the building roof, to ensure no chance of water leaks to the Data Centre operations. “Nitoproof 600PF” liquid polyurethane membrane was used in the roof top, and “Nitoproof 800” as a high-performance solvent free membrane, was used at within the confined double slab void location. Brushbond FLXIII was used for wet areas providing a seamless elastic cementitious waterproof membrane.
The client is highly concerned the performances of the waterproofing systems. As the building would be served as a data centre, the absence of water was essential to its normal operation. Fosroc worked with the architect in the early design stage on suitable materials and design detailing to fit with the stringent requirements.
THE BENEFITS
The satisfactory result shown that Fosroc ‘s product solutions are top notch and capable to cope with demanding conditions. The success is a perfect showcase for any upcoming Data Centre projects.
