VIEW PROJECT

Years after the world of tourism bounces back from COVID-19 restriction, Indonesia remains as one of the most popular travel destinations in the world. Stretching as wide as 5 million square kilometers with more than 17,000 islands, Indonesia is renowned for its rich cultural diversity, astounding natural landscape, and coastal destinations. Many regions in Indonesia feel like hidden gems waiting for its potentials to be discovered.

In every region with tourist attractions, accommodation such as hotels has become an integral part of its tourism. Hotels unknowingly become the second home for visitors, providing a place to rest in between exploring the region. It is crucial that the design of hotel be contextual to its location, reflecting local identity and hence promoting the region further. In Rembang, a rising travel destination located along the north coast of Java island, Pollos Hotel & Gallery stands as a modern accommodation with nautical theme that celebrates rustic local culture.

Pollos Hotel & Gallery is a 3-star hotel with a total of 111 rooms. It is equipped with extensive leisure and meeting facilities, functioning both as a business and leisure hotel. When entering the construction phase, the existing architectural design was reviewed and some interventions were done while still keeping the intent of the original design. The facade is given a nautical character in reference to the context of Rembang as a fishing hub. The hotel's proximity to the beach also influences the concept behind the facade design.

The four-storey structure consists of an open-layout ground floor, three levels of rooms, meeting rooms and halls, as well as a rooftop floor. The ground floor connects the welcoming lobby directly to a large swimming pool. The ground-level gallery showcases local hand-crafted souvenirs and furniture, displaying Rembang locality. There is also a restaurant that overlooks the outdoor swimming pool.

The rooftop floor holds a lounge, providing flexible space for open-air events. The elevated sky lounge gives a direct view of Rembang town and mesmerizing ocean view of Java Sea.
