“The Festival of Centre Street” to celebrate District Revitalisation in Sai Ying Pun

Innovative Bamboo Pavilions will pop up on Centre Street, one of the steepest streets in the city and its adjacent area to showcase the accomplishment of “Centre Street Soeng5 Lok6”, a funded project under the Urban Renewal Heritage Preservation and District Revitalisation Funding Scheme. A group of local architects and artists had worked with residents, schools and community centres in Sai Ying Pun over the past three years, with the vision of co-creating public space and community amenities that leverage existing resources and assets to address community needs.
Organised by architecture design firm Daydreamers Design, Centre Street Soeng5 Lok6 leveraged the existing resources and district-specific assets of the old district to co-create new public spaces, amenities, and landscapes with lively and artistic elements incorporated. Highlights include:
For a month from 16 June, Bamboo pavilions, Artistic Railings installed on Centre Street, Mural Painting, Art installation (by artists Sim Chan and Vaan Ip,- The Community Garden at Ui On Lane, Community Docents, Street Movie Screenings and a series of ICH x Arts workshops.
