Pintasan Saloma is a pedestrian bridge connecting the modern central business district of Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) and the traditional residential-centric enclave of Kampong Bharu, previously separated by the Klang River and the six-lane Ampang Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway.

The project includes reconfiguring Jalan Saloma with wider pedestrian walkway, better landscaping, street furniture and lighting. Elevator for universal access, staircase with special bicycle track, public plaza that links to the nearby LRT station are also incorporated at the Kampung Bharu end.

Historically, Kampong Bharu had settled on both sides of the Klang River.

This illustration shows the overlay of various maps which includes: 1957 KL map, 1870s Kuala Lumpur mining map & 2019 Kampong Bharu Masterplan (in red).

This illustration highlights that the Klang River meandered through Kampong Bharu and a bridge crossing the river existed since the 1870s.

This historical bridge connected both sides of Kampong Bharu, but this connection was soon lost with the introduction of the AKLEH highway, where it straightened the river and further divided the communities. Pintasan Saloma aims to re-establish this historical connection.

SIRIH JUNJUNG

The design was inspired by the Sirih Junjung, an ornament traditionally offered in Malay weddings as a symbol of unity. This concept signifies the importance of uniting the two prominent fabrics of the city with a vision to make KL an environmentally friendly, walkable city.

NEW LANDMARK

Shades and shadows cast by the bridge cladding during the day make the breezy walk through the link comfortable.

At night, the LED façade lighting adds colours to the experience via celebratory visual displays.

Viewing decks along the bridge also frame various city skyline views.

Since the bridge opened, it has become a new landmark attraction and a new public realm that attracts the people of KL as well as tourists to spend leisure time.

The façade media lighting can be programmed to cater for different events and festivities, adding to its iconic presence as part of the city’s identity.

CATALYST

The bridge has opened up new opportunities for its users and encourages more walkability in the city.

It also allows local economic activities to flourish and contributes to a vibrant urban setting.

Beyond a bridge, Pintasan Saloma is part of the effort in encouraging pedestrian mobility and promoting sustainable urban design, reminiscing historical connections of the city and envisioning future development of Kampung Bharu.

Pintasan Saloma provides a delightful urban respite and realm for the public to enjoy and view the city of Kuala Lumpur from different perspectives.
