GridAKL Innovation 5A

12 Madden St, Auckland CBD

GridAKL is the largest co-working initiative in New Zealand. Jasmax worked with ATEED on the fitout of the Innovation 5A, and its adjacent tenancy in the Mason Bros building.

The vision behind the GridAKL Innovation precinct is to diversify workplace offering the city and provide a venue for like-minded businesses to come together and innovate. Phase one of two, Jasmax worked closely with ATEED and Generator to develop the interior fitout and spatial planning of 5A; a four-storey new-build at 12 Madden Street.

Both Innovation 5A and Mason Bros are regarded as co-working spaces of a ‘corporate quality’. Innovation 5A is operated by Generator, and offers tenants the same high quality, acoustically-balanced work premises as a tailored fitout for a large corporate would, however on a membership basis.

Innovation 5A is designed to support multi-tenancies for medium to large enterprises and provide memberships for drop-in co-work / meeting space use for larger corporates.

The concept of ‘laneway’ underpins the design concept for 5A. Responding to plans for the wider Wynyard Quarter, Laneways intersect all levels. They’re activated by amenity, provided to encourage chance meeting and increase business interactions. The interior has been designed to give each level its own identity based around levels of a typical laneway building: Level 0 as the marketplace, Level 1: the workshop, Level 2: the home, Level 3: the rooftop garden.

“The success of the co-working spaces and laneways within the Wynyard Quarter Innovation Prescient are the result of a design that carefully orchestrates the distribution of generously proportioned shared amenities.” – New Zealand Institute of Architects, Awards Jury
