Novak+Middleton Office

Everton Terrace, Wellington.

CATEGORIES : Commercial, Small Projects

AWARDS : NZIA Wellington Architecture Awards Winner for Small Project Architecture

Novak+Middleton enjoy a high profile city-fringe site on Everton Terrace, Wellington. The office has the benefits of proximity to town and small floor plates allowing for natural ventilation and a great outlook. The building was constructed as a home in the 1960’s and has stood the test of time with classic black-stained weatherboards, white timber balustrades and an aluminium roof.

The building first became in office in the 1970’s and has been home to Novak+Middleton since 1998. The firm has progressed and grown, largely within the original structure.

With advances in structural technology and understanding of seismic forces, Novak+Middleton teamed up with Clendon Burns and Park structural engineers to strengthen the building whilst providing ductility that will allow the building to flex and dissipate earthquake energy. A new entry and meeting space below the current two-storey office was constructed at the same time.

New steelwork spans wide areas of glazing, to give openness and light to the new spaces.

These initiatives retain the integrity of the original building, while enlivening the building for many years to come.
