Stormtech, a leader in architectural drainage solutions, has reinforced its commitment to sustainability by incorporating Capral Aluminium's LocAl® Super Green aluminium into its award-winning Wave Grate product. This collaboration highlights both companies' dedication to environmentally responsible manufacturing and sourcing practices.
Stormtech has long prioritised environmental stewardship in its operations. Its decision to manufacture the Wave Grate using Capral's LocAl® Super Green aluminium underscores this commitment. With a carbon footprint of just 4kg CO₂e per kilogram of aluminium—around three times lower than the global average—LocAl® Super Green represents one of the lowest embodied carbon aluminium options currently available on the market.
"At Stormtech, we're always looking for ways to push the boundaries of sustainable design," said Troy Creighton, Managing Director at Stormtech. "The choice to use Capral's LocAl® Super Green aluminium in our Wave Grate was driven by our desire to reduce environmental impact without compromising on performance or design integrity."
Stormtech's Wave Grate is a sleek and modern linear drainage solution, known for its distinctive wave profile that efficiently manages water flow while discreetly integrating with contemporary architectural finishes. The use of LocAl® Super Green aluminium in its construction not only enhances its environmental credentials but also aligns with Stormtech's broader sustainability framework, which includes the use of stainless steel made from more than 90% recycled content and manufactured with a carbon footprint 75% below the global industry average.
Capral Aluminium, Australia's largest extruder and distributor of aluminium products, launched the LocAl® range in 2022 in response to demand from Australian manufacturers seeking to decarbonise their aluminium supply chain. Capral's LocAl offer gives Australian manufacturers access to more sustainable aluminium options. LocAl® Green and LocAl® Super Green are both supplied from aluminium certified under the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) for Performance and Chain of Custody standards, offering transparency and accountability in how their aluminium is sourced and produced.
"As demand grows for sustainable materials, it's critical that manufacturers have access to certified low-carbon aluminium," said Luke Hawkins, Divisional General Manager Industrial and Supply Chain "We're proud to work with companies like Stormtech who are taking a proactive approach and making real, tangible changes to their product offerings"
Capral's membership in the Australian Made Campaign further reinforces its commitment to supporting local manufacturing and sustainable supply chains. All Capral extrusions are made in Australia, giving customers confidence in the quality, traceability, and environmental responsibility of the materials they specify.
The partnership between Stormtech and Capral represents a powerful alignment of values and a shared vision for the future of sustainable building. Through thoughtful design and material choices, the Wave Grate exemplifies how innovation and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand—delivering not only outstanding aesthetic and functional outcomes but also helping to build a greener future for the industry.
