When building or renovating, the choice of door jamb material plays a critical role in overall performance, durability, and visual appeal. While several materials are available, not all deliver the same level of reliability over time. The most commonly used options are timber, aluminium, and steel—each with distinct characteristics and limitations.
EzyJamb® frames are manufactured from steel, offering superior strength, stability, and resistance to warping or twisting. Designed with innovation at their core, EzyJamb® systems enable architrave-free installations that integrate seamlessly with modern and minimalist interiors. Their steel construction makes them ideally suited to contemporary building projects where precision, consistency, and long-term performance are essential.
Timber has traditionally been used for door jamb construction and offers some design flexibility; however, it presents several limitations—particularly when aiming for a flush, architrave-free finish. Conventional timber jambs rely on architraves to conceal gaps between the frame and wall, resulting in a bulkier appearance that disrupts the clean lines favoured in modern design.
From a performance perspective, timber is highly responsive to changes in temperature and humidity. Over time, this can lead to warping, twisting, and shrinkage, causing doors to stick, gaps to appear, and frames to lose alignment. Timber is also susceptible to moisture damage, rot, and termite infestation, especially in wet areas or humid environments. Ongoing maintenance, including sealing and specialised paint coatings, is required to preserve its condition—adding to long-term costs.
While timber may appear cost-effective at first, its inherent vulnerabilities often lead to repairs, callbacks, and early replacement, making it a less dependable option for projects where durability and precision are key priorities.
Door jambs must withstand constant use and repeated opening and closing forces. Although aluminium is resistant to termites and less affected by temperature fluctuations, it lacks the strength required for door frame applications. Being softer than steel, aluminium is more prone to dents and impact damage—an important consideration in high-traffic residential and commercial environments.
Additionally, aluminium typically requires extra coatings and treatments, and its reduced structural integrity limits its suitability as a long-term door jamb solution.
Steel is the strongest and most reliable material for door frames, offering exceptional durability and structural performance. Unlike timber, steel does not warp, swell, or twist with environmental changes, and unlike aluminium, it maintains its strength and stability even under heavy, long-term use.
EzyJamb® leverages the inherent advantages of steel to create advanced flush door jamb systems. Manufactured using premium BlueScope steel, EzyJamb® provides a robust, precision-engineered solution that eliminates bulky trims and allows doors to sit flush within the wall. This enables builders, designers, and architects to achieve clean, seamless finishes without compromising performance.
As a patented and unique system, EzyJamb® delivers innovation that cannot be replicated. Each frame is specialty coated with Zincanneal ZF100 and complies with AS/NZS 2311:2009 finished surface standards. This means frames are paint-ready immediately after installation—reducing labour, saving time, and ensuring a flawless final finish without additional surface preparation.
