Waterproof Flooring Boards

02 Dec 2022 by FireCrunch

For those who have experienced the horrendous effects of flooding, the description ‘Flood Resistant Plasterboard’ is nonsense! ‘Waterproof’ Plasterboard does not exist!

So-called ‘moisture resistant plasterboard’ products are sold in Australia – but as many people now realise, even these will not withstand part or prolonged flooding – and definitely not total flood submergence.

These immediately become a sodden mess and fall off the walls, are hard to clean up, and ruin the expensive glass wool/rock wool cavity insulation batts – which also then need replacing.

Product Comparison

PLASTERBOARD

  •  WEAK AND INEFFECTIVE

‘Water Resistant Plasterboard’ is a weak, ineffective cladding solution, requiring constant replacement when repeatedly exposed to moisture/flooding.

  • OLD TECHNOLOGY

Plasterboard has really outlived its practical worth after 70 years and is definitely not suited in any way to the current growing extremes of Australian climatic conditions – now – or in the future.

  • NOT TREE FRIENDLY

It is also unfriendly to the planet, contributing directly to deforestation to make near useless paper linings. Plasterboard is a high CO2 pollutant contributor 90% compared to the FloodClad MgSO4 products (New Scientist Magazine, USA).

FLOODCLAD

  • SERIOUS PROTECTION / EXTRA STRONG

FloodClad is 8 times stronger than plasterboard, is a zero VOC building product; being a scientific composite, nothing breaks down. It is a long term, low maintenance building cladding, providing significant flood protection.

  • INNOVATIVELY DESIGNED / ECO FRIENDLY

FloodClad is the best solution for replacement of flood-damaged cladding, offering the latest technology through innovatively designed magnesium oxide (MgSO4) building boards – water resistant, strong, protective. Our product stays inert in water, retaining full integrity. Low CO2 / eco friendly / 100% recyclable.

  • EASY INSTALLATION

FloodClad installations can be carried out by regular licensed trades, using regular timber tools to cut and drill as needed, and requires no pre-drilling like CFC Blueboard and Villaboard type cladding.

FloodClad is an alternative building cladding to plasterboard, marketed in Australia by FireCrunch Australasia Pty Ltd.

Waterproof Flooring Boards

21ST CENTURY MATERIALS

FloodClad Magnesium Oxide MgO Board is a new 2nd generation multipurpose scientific composite MgSO4 highly durable cladding.

EXTRA BENEFITS

It is most suitable for use in applications providing a multiple protection combination technique in waterproof cladding and flood-resistant building, including thermal resistant cladding with an additional benefit in fireproof cladding up to FRL 90/90/90 minutes. Fire-tested by NATA Labs, Australian accredited test authorities CSIRO, and meeting maximum bushfire attack level BAL FZ, Flame Zone.

STAYS TOTALLY INERT SUBMERGED IN WATER

Unaffected being submerged in water, FloodClad stays totally inert in water and flooding period. When properly weather-sealed to specification (using AquaCrunch primer sealer, plus additional sealant) on joints in installation, it will also protect the insulation batts and help protect the vulnerable timber framing from most water exposure.

SHORTER DRY PERIOD (DAYS)

This can eliminate what can otherwise be a long period of months to dry out timber framing, before the cladding replacement can even commence.

IN A FLOOD EVENT

If flooding occurs, it’s easy to clean watermarks off FloodClad sheets. If you are concerned that water has affected some of the timber framing, you can simply unscrew a few boards to allow air to circulate through the framing until dry. Leave them to dry for the required period and repaint as required. Minimal mess, minimal cost to fix, and minimal time back to normality.

MOULD RESISTANT CLADDING

Mould resistant cladding is hard to find.

All paper lined plasterboard secretes mould on surfaces and under paper linings, creating a serious health risk and should never be used in wet areas, bathrooms, kitchens or exterior, under insulation etc.

FloodClad is a flood and mould proof material, made from a special heavy duty but lightweight waterproof cladding composite called (MgSO4).

Flood proof FloodClad is a scientifically manufactured long life product with virtually no deteriorating organic materials. It is also termite protection cladding, so protects all expensive timber framing zero VOC and no noxious chemicals plus only a low 5% contributor of CO2.

Added bonus, its also bushfire tested to Max BAL FZ NATA/CSIRO.

Other Benefits of FloodClad

  • Fireproof up to 90 minutes at 1000ºC – 3 times the bushfire attack level Flame Zone (BAL FZ).
  • Termite proof cladding, protects all timber framing.
  • Mould/Bacteria proof cladding. Bacteria cannot survive on MgSO4. Ideal for wet/humid areas like bathrooms, kitchens, laundries.
  • Planet friendly – FloodClad is a highly sustainable cladding product, 100% recyclable, as well as being only a low 5% net contributor in CO2 during manufacturing.
  • These products have a very low carbon footprint, assisting towards the 2030 and 2050 International Climate Accords.
  • FloodClad saves millions of oxygen-generating CO2 absorbing trees from destruction; unlike plasterboard, FloodClad does not use paper linings.

This makes FireCrunch an ideal solution for use in areas where there are concerns with allergies and health.Building & CostingsTypical 10mm non-fire rated plasterboard or so called 13mm fireproof plasterboard as well as single sheets of plasterboard cannot meet high-rise and commercial building FRL Fire resistance levels over 60, 90 and 120 minutes, without the need for multiple layers of fireproof plasterboard in fire separation walls. The 10mm FireCrunch fireproof building board will however move the fire resistance level to FRL 90/90/90 with one 10mm MgO sheet each side of a 92mm steel framed fire separation wall or double stud timber frame. This results in a huge reduction of direct costs in material; more so the expensive labour rate per m2 to install, at least double, and in some cases three layers on each side. The extra hidden costs of the extra site work can increase time and delivery fees for double and even treble the material handling. This should not be overlooked and can vastly help to improve the all-important ROI for the developer builder.Tool RequirementsNo special tools are required to use FireCrunch. It can be sawn, drilled, screwed and planed just like timber. Once in position, our fire rated building boards have an exceptionally long-life span, exceeding that of all homes using conventional plasterboards, paper lined plasterboards or timber lining methods. In addition, no replacement is required after flooding; simply unscrew the building boards from the framing, dry it out, light sand and re-paint. FireCrunch is made for your convenience, adhering to the highest Australian (BCA) standards.
