At Bacchus Marsh Grammar’s Woodlea Campus, a striking example of biophilic design has been realized through the integration of a 15.6m² FytoFelt green wall, an 18.6m² planter box, and a tranquil feature pond. The greening element on this project was led by Fytogreen Australia, in collaboration with Peter Thompson Architects and McIldowie Partners.
This living infrastructure demonstrates how vertical gardens and integrated landscape features can elevate the architectural experience in Bacchas Marsh Grammar's educational setting. With 45 plant species and 304 individual plants in the green wall, and 18 species in the planter box, the design delivers both ecological richness and visual sophistication, enhancing spatial quality while supporting passive environmental performance.
Completed in December 2024, the installation is a central feature of the Bacchus Marsh Grammar campus, offering a multisensory experience that bridges built and natural environments. The inclusion of a water feature adds a calming acoustic layer, reinforcing the biophilic intent and contributing to a restorative atmosphere for students and staff. For architects, this project at Bacchus Marsh Grammar exemplifies the value of integrating green infrastructure early in the design process—not only to meet sustainability goals but to create spaces that are engaging, health-promoting, and future-ready.
