What if your leftover flooring could do more than disappear into a landfill?
At Karndean, it can, and should, have a second life.
Australia generates over 60,000 tonnes of resilient flooring waste every year. Traditionally, this waste, offcuts, trimmings, and uplifted flooring end up in a landfill. That’s a challenge not just for the environment, but for our industry’s future.
As a founding member of ResiLoop, Karndean is helping pioneer Australia’s first national stewardship scheme for resilient flooring. The goal? To create a closed loop, where flooring materials are collected, recycled, and transformed into new products.
Driven by ARFA and supported by key players across the supply chain, ResiLoop is building real pathways for recycling vinyl flooring, with Karndean as an active founding member.
At our Knoxfield head office, we saw an opportunity to demonstrate the circular journey in a tangible, visible way. As part of a recent garden upgrade, we installed Jack Matrix™ garden edging, a product made from recycled LVT flooring collected through ResiLoop.
For us, it was more than just installing garden edging. It was a proud moment for our team to see how the material we work with every day could be given a new life. These weren’t just off-cuts or leftover trimmings. They were the starting point of something new, repurposed to shape and support the greenery that surrounds our workplace.
The garden now stands as a small but powerful example of circular life in action, reminding staff, visitors, and customers alike that every square metre of flooring has the potential to become something more.
So far, ResiLoop has already diverted over 50 tonnes of LVT material from landfill. With support from founding members like our team here at Karndean, the program now targets 30 tonnes recycled per month.
This initiative isn’t just a demonstration, it’s a blueprint. By investing in the circular economy, Karndean is helping ensure resilient flooring has a sustainable future.
