Hillsong Doody Street

Alexandria, NSW

Hillsong Alexandria Campus (Doody Street) is an edgy urban home for a vibrant Christian community.

The church space is a converted warehouse that includes a 900-seat church auditorium with state-of-the-art AV technology, breakout meeting spaces and a welcoming entry foyer.

The NBRS design team resolved the restrictions of using the existing warehouse including limited floor space by inserting a tiered auditorium into the warehouse shell. The auditorium is a controlled space with highly technical requirements for AV connectedness. Exposed services, such as air conditioning and electricals, create a feature of semi-industrial elements rather than hiding them. This design solution also increased foyer volume and a sense of space. Polished concrete floors and exposed steel elements add to the urban vibe and the neutral palette allows for the vibrancy of the church and its members to shine.

Understanding people movement and navigation in the design of spaces where large numbers of people gather can be seen in the interaction between the auditorium and various support spaces such as the café style foyer and youth and children's spaces. All spaces were purpose designed to be inviting and pleasing to use making being part of the church a safe and life filled environment.
