New traditions for an established club
ACING CUTTING-EDGE DESIGNS FOR A TRADITIONAL TENNIS CLUB
Bruce Henderson Architects has partnered with Victoria’s prestigious Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club for many years to deliver a number of improvements. These have included architectural services for a full refurbishment to the existing clubhouse as well as extensive changes to its façade.
Architectural services for a new generation
The refurbishment was the response to an amalgamation of Kooyong members’ feedback with the intention of creating a new club atmosphere and meeting its future needs.
An emphasis on comfort and views
A key feature of the design was a new winter garden for all-weather dining overlooking tennis courts. Extensions to current Hopman and Racquet Club dining and terrace areas allow for uninterrupted views of tennis matches in the comfort of a fully serviced outdoor dining environment.
World-class amenity
With a focus on the comprehensive offering of the club, our design included a new gymnasium and extensive alterations to current aerobics areas. A separate members entry point, an expansion to the ladies change rooms, a new powder room, plus additional carparking, and conference and administration spaces all benefit members, while the satellite improved kitchen facilities allows for improved event catering.
The Kooyong Classic, held each January before the Australian Open, regularly attracts leading international players. Our ongoing and considered design work on the precinct – and subsequent work providing master plan services for the club’s future – ensures the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club maintains its tradition as an internationally significant venue for many years to come.
