Collaboration for a shared vision…
A SEAMLESS CONNECTION BETWEEN INTERIORS AND ARCHITECTURE
Close collaboration between interior design and architecture firms to realise a singular vision is at the heart of this iconic South Yarra tower – a holistic, compelling and quality design outcome.
A unique identity in South Yarra
Standing out on South Yarra’s Chapel Street can be a challenge, so for Royal Como the vision took a bold architectural approach – particularly for the podium level – to give the building a recognisable identity.
The tower’s exterior is given its sinuous shape by a sophisticated yet minimal system of detailing. A sense of movement is created by silver reflections and interplay of light across the façade.
As the tower rises, complementary and contrasting materials – like mixed glass, metallic treatments and masonry elements create further visual interest and a connection to the building’s interiors.
Interior design and architecture firms collaborate for best results
The collaboration between Bruce Henderson Architects and Nexus Interiors was based on a shared vision for seamless continuity between exterior and interior.
Bruce Henderson Architects’ extensive apartment design and planning expertise means the practice has allowed the highest standard of internal efficiencies to be maintained throughout all apartments. Here, interior spaces and external architecture come together to allow residents to enjoy effortless, sophisticated lifestyles.
Overt connections between interiors and exteriors
On the ground floor, exterior materiality and interior finishes inform each other and establish a fine grain of detail. The natural basalt cladding that is the dominant feature of the entry lobbies extends right throughout the ground floor while the Australian blackbutt timber doors and details reference its use throughout the building.
The strong horizontal planar canopy in black steel that overlays the ground floor diverts upwards to frame the double-height retail tenancy, echoing the architectural treatment above.
