Creating uplifting, meaningful environments with limited resources, within a tight footprint constrained by an ageing building, always brings with it more challenges than a clean slate. This project contributes through the reinvention of space in an adaptive reuse context, pushing the boundaries literally of what was an inflexible, isolating office environment. We brought creative collaborations that showcase alumni talents, highlighting the benefits of cross-disciplinary exchange, doing a lot with a little.
Importantly this workplace transformation not only presents a more conducive, productive and collaborative environment, it also features a multifaceted timber sculpture that delivers on multiple levels, including the spatial device guiding circulation, clearly dividing spaces that are private and public, and embedding University values through materiality, process and design.
Engaging ESD principles that improve the performance of the existing building and create healthy environments are a given. Engaging local collaborations in academia, manufacturing and supply take sustainable outcomes further.
