Having emerged from its role within General Electric Company (GEC), a major British-based industrial conglomerate involved in consumer and defense electronics, communications and engineering, and once a constituent of the FT 30 and FTSE 100 Index, GEC’s Hong Kong trading business was acquired by Shriro Pacific Limited and reestablished as GELEC (HK) Limited in July 1999. It has since become a leading supplier of high-quality electrical, mechanical and lighting products in Hong Kong, China and Macau. In April 2000, GELEC further strengthened its position by acquiring the Mechanical Division of Dodwell Engineering. In January 2011, GELEC expanded its portfolio again by acquiring Shriro Machinery Limited, which represents and distributes first-class construction equipment for building and infrastructure industries in Hong Kong and Macau.
