39 Conduit Road, Hong Kong

39 Conduit Rd, Mid-Levels, Hong Kong

The site is located in a residential neighbourhood on the hillside of the Hong Kong Island. The back of the site is a natural slope with lush greenery rising to the top of the mountain, Victoria Peak.
The usual building in Hong Kong on the hillside will involve cutting the slope and the construction of a retaining wall to make way for the construction of the new building which often leaves a man-mad scar on the hillside. This approach is perceived to be environmentally
unfriendly. At 39 Conduit Road, the profile of the podium is carefully designed so that the sky garden deck on the 7th floor is extended to connect
directly with the natural slope of the mountain at the site boundary. The trees and greenery on the mountain outside the site boundary is preserved, capturing the natural beauty of the mountain beyond, transforming the mountain into the natural vertical green backdrop for the sky garden which becomes the heart of this high-rise
development.
Greenery is allowed to over-grow onto the fence along the site boundary blurring the line between natural greenery of the mountain and the man-made sky garden, uniting them as one.
