Integrated Design Associates was commissioned in 2014 to redevelop the land at the sea front property on the northern coast of Monaco where the current Meridian Beach Plaza Hotel located. The programme consists of 5 star hotel, exhibition centre and retail facilities. Embracing the pleasant local weather, marine life environment and maximize the sea view is the guideline of the concept development.
By Introducing a canal into the complex allows direct access to the hotel from the sea by yachts. Two crescent shape hotel buildings surround the canal providing the yachts journey a dramatic experience. The taller building is situated alongside the main street. At lower levels the retail facilities are located at the promenade next to the canal opening up to the public space outside. The upper levels consist of all the standard rooms. The lower building at the ocean front serves for an exclusive boutique hotel. Both crescent’s gentle profile maximized the sea view of the guest room terrace, at the luxury suites.
The circular island connected through basement in front of both crescents is a glass skylight above the exhibition hall. At night it is transformed to a stage for the performance in the middle of the ocean. The guests become the audiences enjoying the show exclusively on their own terraces.
To create a micro climate of the entire development the thermal insulation layer is introduced to provide the airspace between the internal buildings and the outer skin in order to maintain the comfortable environment all year round.
