Princess Alexandra Residential School (PARS) is a Special School for mentally and physically handicapped students. The original dormitory was built 40 years ago which was ragged and unserviceable. A funding was granted for the redevelopment of dormitory. The design team takes into account of "Humanity" which not only satisfies domestic need, but also facilitates the communication among community and creates a sense of one big family by means of architecture. The concepts of "Courtyard" and "Garden" were adopted. A central courtyard with wide cloister provides a gathering place while the backyard garden provides private space. The courtyard also provides natural lighting and ventilation. All circulations are integrated with spaces and moving around make the promenade experience from one space to another and feeling "within", which enhance the architectural connectivity.
