Safety Studies for Tullow Oil, TEN FPSO Project

Background

ERM recently completed a 12 month program of work supporting Tullow Oil on its TEN Floating production and storage (FPSO) project (Offshore Ghana) during FEED.

Our Approach

The work involved performing a wide range of Risk and Safety studies including Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) for the FPSO design options, Drilling & Completions Risk Assessment, Sub-Sea Risk Assessment, HAZOP, HAZID/ENVID and SIL studies, SCE and ECE Identification, TEMPSC evaluation study, Safety Case Terms of Reference plus review and evaluation of all design contractor, Formal Safety Assessment studies.

Delivering the studies involved ERM working closely with Tullow and its FEED Contractors at various project locations including the UK, Malaysia and Singapore. The team, all from ERM’s Global Risk Practice, included specialists in process safety, HAZOP/HAZID/ENVID leads, plus experienced risk assessors and safety engineers. ERM continue to support Tullow on the project and is currently involved in developing the Safety Case and performing and reviewing related safety studies during the EPC phase. This has included seconding ERM staff to support the Tullow Technical Safety Team, both in London for the sub-sea work and in Singapore for the FPSO.

Benefits

ERM delivered expertise in technical safety and risk assessment using skills developed across a range of projects over many years. Our geographical spread of resources ensured the project could be supported in both London and Singapore and our input enabled Tullow to demonstrate that all safety risks on the project have been reduced to a level which is as low as reasonably practicable.
