Lead8 is designing a 420,000 sqm mixed-use development located in the heart of Qianhai district. Qianhai is situated in the Pearl River Delta. With the completion of railways and roads by 2020, Qianhai will be within a one-hour commuting radius of the Pearl River Delta and within a 30-minute commuting radius of Hong Kong.
The development comprises of a retail podium, two office towers, two residential towers, a 5-star hotel, civic space and cultural attractions.
The project vision is to create a thriving district centre—an urban destination that serves as a highly visible landmark with architecture, landscape and transportation fully integrated in order to enhance connectivity and define a true sense of place for the emerging district.
One of the defining characteristics of the project is an environmentally friendly atmosphere that seamlessly connects the development with nature. Dedicated for public use, multi-level green spaces are woven throughout.
A 35 metre-wide landscaped green corridor cuts through the centre of the site – envisioned to be viewed from the top, this open central courtyard creates communal space for all functions. It allows for an exciting connection to the commercial and residential elements, and natural light to enter the podium of the building.
With direct links to the MTR transportation network, the development will also serve as an “attractor,” drawing people into the district from the city and other transportation hubs. Pedestrian routes above and below grade and multiple bridge links provide strategic connections to the public transportation system, as well as to adjacent parcels and neighbouring developments.
A large glass and steel canopy structure of folding planes, creates a dramatic architecture feature above the rooftop garden, seamlessly integrating the green park with the façade of the podium.
