The UE Print Media Hub is an example of how normally pragamatic restrictive industrial programmatic requirements can be exploited in the creation of an architecturally exciting and contextually responsive Urban Landmark.
The facade is designed with priority to natural lighting and ventilation. The horizontal bands of sun-shading screens are interrupted by vertical, seemingly random playful vertical strokes of colour. Functionally, they identify the location of doors needed for the loading and replacement of large heavy machinery into the production spaces.
Likewise, louvered vertial bands further accentuate the random gesture and at the same time function as concealed air-con ledges.
This interplay between function, topography, form and colour repeats itseld in various guises throughout the project.
