Ooi Design & Associates (OD&A)’s office is located at the suburban area of Kinrara. Being interior designers ourselves, it was important and equally exciting to take up the project of designing our own space, as we believe it reflects our identity and brand as professional interior designers. The office takes up 2490 sqf and was designed to be a modern, timeless, and productive designer workspace with touches of elegance that is set to impress both our clients and honored guests. Many of the built-ins and design features are flexible and can be readily taken apart or moved.
OD&A’s office design was designed to ensure all public and meeting spaces are situated at the front half of the office, nearer to the main door, whereas the private workspaces are located at the back, away from public access. The workspace of OD&A was designed with an open plan system, which allowed for optimal and easy communication within the office space. This is due to lower partitions between work spaces that cause less hindrances and barriers between individual workstations, subconsciously encouraging an overall sense of unity and transparency between the users of this space. The open plan system also brings in more natural daylight to fill and brighten the space. A clever use of carpets can be seen used throughout the office as means of separating different work zones, as well as adding texture and comfort.
A good example of comfort can be seen at the meeting room. As one approaches the room, a coffered feature wall greets you and continues from the cozy waiting area into the meeting room. The full height meeting room sliding door camouflages itself by its repetitive and continuous pattern that combines the two areas gracefully without having an obvious segregation of space. The walls of this meeting room are dressed in classic and elegantly styled wall panels. Full height windows allows ample natural light into the space, which beautifully highlights the touches of brass which can be seen at the table edging, floor lamp, as well as custom door handle, which add touches of warmth to the light and airy atmosphere. The meeting room’s carpet uniquely reflects a nature-inspired cobblestone texture that adds character and softens the space.
