An oasis for the discriminating traveler, the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown blurs the line between nature and urbanism.
Situated high up in the Wilshire Grand Center, the hotel in downtown LA’s newest landmark offers exceptional views from the tallest building in the western United States. Design elements were inspired by LA’s four ecological typologies: the beach, the flatlands, the foothills and the freeways.
The Sky Lobby
The first hotel on the U.S. West Coast to have a sky lobby, the space incorporates L.A.’s car culture via abstract representations of car lines in the internal paneling and decor.
The Guestrooms and Suites
From the Presidential Suite to the guestrooms, furnishings are designer brands, including Hermes, Fendi, Holly Hunt and Menodi. Because of the unique building shape, the design team studied many room conditions and designed more than 200 room types and variant conditions. To remain on schedule with the construction schedule of the skyscraper, the guestroom bathrooms were designed first and pre-made using the POD system, and the completed bathroom was hoisted in place via crane and installed within the structure before the building’s façade was installed.
The Flooring
Custom-designed carpets by Wilson Associates designers—made by both Atlas and Couristan—were inspired by the ridges of the sand on the seashore.
The Ballrooms
The Junior Ballroom is a unique combination of interior and exterior event space—the southern wall is comprised of a massive garage door that opens to the Level 7 pool deck, capitalizing on the amazing So-Cal climate.
