As an extension of the exceptional Museum of Modern Art in New York, our ambition for the MoMA Design Store is to create a unique retail experience which embodies their “good design” ideology. Along with K11, the interactive store environment provides a haven to customers of all ages, with flexibility catered to sustain the fast-paced Hong Kong retail landscape. As this is the first MoMA store in greater China, we have incorporated local elements in homage to our cultural heritage as part of the aesthetical expression and tangible execution. To name a few: the use of bamboo and galvanised zinc, the mobile chess-piece-like fixtures inspired by mah-jong table, and revamp of the dim sum trolley. We hope such elements would evoke a sense of familiarity, while inspire a greater collaboration between international creativity and local workmanship.
