Why Accoya?
Why use Accoya? Accoya® wood represents a major development in wood technology. It enables the consistent supply of durable, non-toxic, dimensionally stable wood. This makes it an ideal material for manufacturing high performance, exterior timber products like wood siding and outside decking. Accoya is manufactured through the acetylation of plantation grown softwood. For over 80 years this has been the gold standard in the academic field of wood science. A breakthrough in closed-loop engineering, culminating in 2007, led to the first commercial scale production of the product in the world.
Accoya should be specified in conjunction with the large number of companies manufacturing cladding, decking, landscape timbers and joinery using Accoya wood.
Looking to the future, we will strive to retain our strong sustainability position and further improve Accoya wood’s outstanding environmental performance. With our environmentally sound production process in place and the continuous improvements we make, we are confident that Accoya will remain a world leader in sustainable wood technology.
The Accoya® Wood Cladding Profile
Assessment of the stability of 15mm thick Accoya® wood cladding boards. Based on findings and observations over the entire testing period (19th September 2013 – 25th November 2015), BM TRADA concludes that:
Evidence of cupping was identified in unmodified radiata pine boards measuring 15mm thick and 195mm wide when exposed outdoors a the field test site during periods of dry/sunny and wet weather shows this test method promotes cupping.
Since no cupping could be detected in Accoya® wooden cladding boards of identical dimensions exposed to the same conditions for a period of 2 years and 2 months, then BM TRADA is of the opinion that Accoya® cladding of 15mm thickness is likely to remain free from detectable distortion over its life.
accoya® wood – ideal for cladding
improved coatings life
Accoya® wood is the ultimate substrate, and its lower maintenance requirements add to its cost effectiveness and environmental credentials. Coatings may be translucent or opaque, allowing for more adventurous colour schemes that will endure.
Use Of Wide Cladding Boards Available
Use of wider cladding boards is allowed by the improved dimensional stability.
