Apartment with Tree is a physical manifestation of the inspiration of the treeline canopy view outside of the apartment windows.
The project is for a newlywed couple who each work in the design and fashion industry respectively and love to entertain and host regularly. To expand the public realm within the apartment to accommodate their parties, we removed the existing walls that define the kitchen and reconstituted a new space that merges living, dining and kitchen together.
A customized island table made from concrete was proposed and inserted to form the main activity and visual anchor in this space. Inspired by the surrounding trees outside of the apartment, a tree-like plant was planted at the end of the table to bring the outdoors inward and enhance the everyday dining experience.
