Crane House

Jalan Bangau

Crane House takes its name from the street name - Bangau, which is stork in Malay. The house also takes on an origami character in the folding of planes to incorporate the pitched roof as an integral part of the form.

The existing house had a 1.2m drop from the front to the rear. Our proposal made a first storey of one level, thereby lifting the floor above the earth by 1.2m towards the rear. This gap becomes a window for the services which are moved to the semi-sunken basement. In doing so, the entire first storey is freed up to become a large living and dining space, perfect for entertaining guests.
