As a new model for live, work and play in Singapore’s city centre, Funan is an integrated development combining retail, entertainment, leisure, wellness, office, co-working and co-living.
Conceived as an ‘experiential creative hub’, the mixed-use development integrates public spaces and a multi-level landscape and public realm strategy designed by grant associates in collaboration with Woods Bagot. Spaces connect laterally and vertically throughout the building, to provide an integrated environment that blurs traditional zones of function and experience to offer a choice of lifestyle activities under one roof.
The Garden Stairs take visitors along raised walkways that are enveloped by planting and lead to the seventh storey of Funan, which is home to the largest rooftop urban garden in Singapore’s downtown area. The rooftop garden features an Urban Farm, operated by Edible Garden City, which showcases sustainable food production with a range of technologies and providing produce to a restaurant tenant. The publicly accessible roof top also features a community dining garden, a futsal court, swings and barbecues and outdoor leisure areas. In addition the offices on the upper levels have external access to the green spaces to promote wellness.
A series of plaza spaces within the public realm announce the entrances into Funan and create a ground floor that is accessible by pedestrians and bicycles 24 hours a day. Funan offers full end-of-trip services for cycling enthusiasts, including bike shops and cafes, lockers and showers. It also provides the city centre’s first drive-through click-and-collect service at its basement levels. The building links to tourist routes in the city–on foot and bicycle–as well as key landmarks in Singapore.
