The project consisted of alterations and additions to the rear of a modest workers cottage in Brisbane’s West End.
In a small pocket of homes where boundary fences are omitted, chooks roam free and the neighborhood children permeate between the internals and external spaces of the home; the additions sought to strengthen these connections between the living areas of the house with the rear garden whilst taking full advantage of the favorable orientation and principles of passive solar design.
The extension contains a small open plan sitting area and kitchen on the upper level while the guest suite and rumpus areas below spill directly into the garden. A terrace pergola along the Western side coupled with a deep eaves overhang permits regulating of the western sun by natural means and deciduous plantings from the edible vegie patch.Completed in 2011 for a growing family who value the simple pleasures in life.
