URA Contract 2 – Proposed Roads, Drains, Sewers & Related Ancillary Works at Yio Chu Kang Road / Lentor Drive Area

Singapore

Client: Urban Redevelopment Authority

To provide better connectivity between the new neighbourhood and upcoming Lentor MRT Station, a 1.25-km road network was developed in the area of Yio Chu Kang Road and Lentor Drive.

Further to the establishment of road network, this project also involved the preparation works of 25-ha land, construction of 2.6-km drains with the width ranging from 0.75 m to 2.80 m, installation of 1.05-km sewer pipelines and other associated roadside facilities.

The project team took the initiative to work closely with other government agencies to resolve any potential maintenance issue and to make provisions for succeeding development with advanced construction. For instances, proposing to replace rigid pavement with semi-rigid pavement at junction for the ease of accessing to the existing underground water pipelines, embedding reserved pipe sleeves beneath the box drain at every land parcel for future connections of sewer pipelines and profiling suitable terrain for the erection of bus stops in time to come.

Special Feature

- Adopting tunnel boring method for jacking of pipelines, minimising disruptions to the public.
- Building the sewer manhole with 12-m circular vortex drop, reducing effect of falling flow.
- Introducing "Bobcat-friendly” drainage grating, allowing the use of mechanical mean to clean the drainage system.
