Aluminium has an important role to play as the world transitions to a low-carbon economy. The metal is light, durable, corrosion-resistant, ductile and easily recyclable. These inherent qualities make it suitable for a wide range of applications including building and construction materials.

Already the second most widely used metal globally after steel, aluminium currently accounts for nearly four percent of global GHG emissions, with 80 percent of that contributed by the energy-intensive aluminium smelting process.

With global aluminium demand projected to grow by more than 50% by 2050, the industry is looking for ways to reduce its environmental impact.

The International company Hydro is leading efforts in recycled and low carbon aluminium. In their Karmoy plant in Norway, they can create the same aluminium through the use of renewal energy from hydro, wind and solar, and using a maximum carbon footprint of 4.0 kg CO2 per kg aluminium produced. Joining the long list of sustainability benefits already associated with using Safetyline Jalousie louvres is a greener and cleaner aluminium. Hydro REDUXA is verified according to ISO 14064 by DNV GL, covering all carbon emissions from bauxite mining and alumina refining to the production of aluminium in electrolysis and casting.
