The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Hong Kong Chapter has announced that they are now accepting submissions for their 2024 Honors & Awards program. This annual event celebrates exceptional achievements in architecture, interiors, urban design, and unbuilt projects by AIA Hong Kong Chapter members, as well as other licensed architects practicing within the region.

The organization is inviting architects, designers, and industry professionals from around the world to join them in October for this three-day event.

The Hong Kong Green Building Council has released the latest edition of “Hong Kong: Green Building in Action” to summarise the updates on Hong Kong's green building development status in 2023. The new edition is now available in a reader-friendly web format, featuring the most recent data and presented through concise and visually appealing infographics, making it easily accessible and enjoyable to read.

Hong Kong, 28 May 2024 – Since its launch in 1996, Building Environmental Assessment Method (or its latest name, BEAM Plus) has been a leading rating tool adopted in Hong Kong for assessing the sustainability performance of buildings. On 27 May 2024, the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) and BEAM Society Limited (BSL) announced the release of the BEAM Plus Existing Buildings (EB) (Global Version) V1.0 and held a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony for applying BEAM Plus to projects outside Hong Kong. Over 60 industry leaders witnessed this important milestone as BEAM Plus expanded its service scope to regions outside Hong Kong, including the Mainland, Belt and Road Regions and Europe. While this important move will actively assist the development of green building in adjacent and overseas regions, the BEAM Plus EB (Global Version) serves as a versatile tool that can adapt to different climate types and flexibly assess the building sustainability based on applicable standards of diverse geographical locations. It can also work in synergy with other green building rating systems around the globe to provide a more comprehensive assessment of sustainability performance.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam - The AIA Hong Kong Chapter is set to host an exciting event that will shine a spotlight on sustainable design practices in Vietnam. "Practicing Sustainability | A Glocal Perspective in Vietnam" will take place from June 13-15 and feature a dynamic lineup of building tours, office visits, and a panel discussion.

Hong Kong is one of the major stopover points along the East-Asian Australasian Flyway for migrating birds, but our urban environment is full of hazards that affect both these migrating birds as well as our own resident birds. Bright lights can disorient the birds, exhausting them and forcing them down into unsuitable environments where they are exposed to unfamiliar and unnatural threats. Co-organized by Allied Sustainability and Environmental Consultants Group Limited (AEC Group), CRREM - Carbon Risk Real Estate Monitor, and GBA Carbon Neutrality Association (GBACNA), this webinar aims to introduce the 8-month Net Zero Real Estate Pioneers for China and Hong Kong CRREM Early Adopter Program that informs, instructs, and encourage the adoption of the CRREM-SBTi aligned decarbonization pathways in Hong Kong and Mainland China.

In a gathering of over 400 architects, the event featured keynote speeches and more than 12 breakout learning sessions. The discussions revolved around defining the practice of architecture and advocating for the rights of architects and the communities they serve. Witnessing hundreds of architects traveling to the capital to address the needs of their local constituents, forge new connections within local and international chapters, and delve into topics of mutual interest was a truly enlightening experience. Additionally, the event introduced the term "architectural pivots," expanding the scope of architectural pursuits.

The exhibition is one of the “HKIA Roving Architecture Exhibitions” series, which was successfully held in Kuala Lumpur and Nanjing last year, and the Hong Kong stop to be held at Kai Tak AIRSIDE from 23rd February to 11th March. The exhibition is open to the public for free admission.

Jointly organised by The Hong Kong Institute of Architects Biennale Foundation and The Hong Kong Institute of Architects, with Create Hong Kong of the HKSAR Government as the Lead Sponsor, the “HKIA Roving Architecture Exhibitions” (Roving Exhibitions series) touring in Venice, Kuala Lumpur and Nanjing last year, is finally returned to Hong Kong. This final stop contains the response exhibition to the “Transformative Hong Kong” Exhibition at the 18th Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale Di Venezia with Hong Kong Arts Development Council as Co-organiser to be held at the Central Market from today to 11th March, as well as the Hong Kong stop of the “Harmony in Diversity – Connecting the Metropolis by in-between” Kuala Lumpur-Nanjing-Hong Kong Roving Architecture Exhibition which will be staged at Kai Tak AIRSIDE from 23rd February to 11th March. Both exhibitions are open to the public for free admission.
