Types of Tropical Hardwood
While ipe is the most popular type of tropical hardwood, there are other varieties of wood that have similar characteristics. Some varieties are arguably as beautiful as ipe but even more durable with a lesser price tag. Choose from FSC® massaranduba, FSC® cumaru, or mahogany.
FSC® Massaranduba Hardwood Pavers
Massaranduba (pronounced Ma-Sa-Ran-Doo-bah) is a hardwood native to South America. It is also known by the names Brazilian Redwood and Bulletwood. Its botanical name is Manilkara bidentata. Massaranduba grows widespread around Central and South America and in a variety of conditions. It is one of the most beautiful and hardest woods in the world with a beautiful red velvet look. Twice as strong as California Redwood and even stronger than ipe, massaranduba naturally resists decay and insects. These properties make this wood an ideal material for decking, terraces, and other outdoor walking surfaces. Our FSC® massaranduba hardwood is responsibly harvested from managed forests to provide a truly renewable resource.
